Stephen Harper puts Bono in his place.

For Bono to expect world leaders to make him a priority is asinine. I am proud to be a Canadian today as Stephen Harper puts Bono in his place.

"I've got to say that meeting celebrities isn't my kind of shtick, that was the shtick of the previous guy," said Harper in a dig at his Liberal predecessor Paul Martin, who met Bono regularly. (source: reuters)

Bono is a rockstar, not a politician or a world leader. It is amazing to me that world leaders give Bono any of their time, but I guess they are star struck just like most of society today. I am happy to see that our Prime Minister is in Germany to work, not get autographs.

Keep up the good work Mr. Harper.

What do Bono and Pamela Anderson have in common???

They both were snubbed by PM Harper, even though their intelligence rating and world political power is beyond what any meter can measure.

I have an interesting link for you on aid to Africa, particularly about AIDS:

For God's Sake, Please Stop the Aid!

I think Harper did the right thing.

As much as I like Bono's music, he does not deserve special access to our prime minister simply by virtue of his celebrity.

Moreover, while his cause may be worthy, his approach is totally misguided. Very little money that goes to Africa truly helps those in need. Most of it lines the pockets and Swiss bank accounts of corrupt leaders. Political change is what is really needed. Unfortunately for the people of Africa, Canada cutting a cheque is money down the drain.

Of course he wouldn't meet with Bono, a human rights, African change, environmental advocate. Besides, Bono doesn't represent a corporate "special interest" group that will make some campaign contributions to the conservative party.
Those crazy humanitarians think they should have the right to talk to world leaders. Do they really think leaders can actually create change? Stephen Harper was absolutely right. He should meet more with China so we can export more of our manufacturing jobs; it's a greater priority.
