Greed is Good!

I remember watching the movie "Wall Street" many years ago. Even though I was a teenager when I first watched it I was deeply moved by Gordon Gekko's speech regarding greed. His words struck me as being true. Since that time I have seen the great effects that greed has on humanity. In 2001, Professor Walter Williams wrote an article that provides great examples of the wonderful power of greed. Personal interest, greed, makes me get out of bed each day and go to work. Whether I am a factory worker, janitor, or teacher, my motivation to work is to make money in order to provide for me and my family. In the process of me achieving my personal interests others benefit. The factory worker produces a product that other people want and benefit from. The motivation of the factory worker is not to build a product to make your life easier but that is a byproduct.

John Stossel wrote an interesting article that has a great example of eating steak in New York. In order for him to be able to eat a steak in New York the labor of thousands of people from all over the United States was necessary. Not a single person in the process is motivated by the good feeling they receive by being able to feed New Yorkers, they are all motivated by greed.

When I am greedy I make more money and am better able to buy goods which provides more jobs, I am better able to give more to charities, and I pay more taxes so the society as a whole is better off.

Greed is good, greed is right, greed works!

The 10 Commandments of the Left's New Religion

The 10 commandments of the new "global warming" religion are:
1. Thou shalt do as I say not as I do.
2. Thou dost not have to actually make any changes to your lifestyle as long as you pay for "carbon credits" to appease your guilty conscious.
3. Thou shalt change all incandescent light bulbs to, mercury filled, compact fluorescent bulbs.
4. Thou shalt unplug your toaster when not in use.
5. Thou shalt not drive large SUV's.
6. Thou shalt not use any facts to defend your beliefs, blind faith in shoddy science is sufficient.
7. Thou shalt scorn and ridicule all unbelievers for they are of the devil.
8. Thou shalt use "kids and grandkids" as an excuse for your conversion to the new religion despite not actually having kids and despising people who do have kids.
9. Thou shalt worship Al Gore as the Messiah, he is the chosen son, and despite not having any education on the matter he is not to be questioned.
10. Thou shalt have no other God's before me. Until next week when global warming is no longer en vogue and you have all lost interest in the cause.

The Left has found religion...again.

The Left is like a fanatical religious convert. They believe that they have just found salvation and are over eager to convert the world. The trouble with the Left's approach is that their religious beliefs changes more often than Britney Spears enters rehab. The path to salvation for the Left has changed from wiping out AIDS, to feeding the hungry in Africa, and many others. Now it appears that those paths to salvation are irrelevant; the new enlightened path is ending global warming.

This just goes to show that if you don't believe in something you will fall for anything. Due to their lack of belief in God the Left is stuck trying to find meaning and purpose in this life.

The market god's giveth and the market god's taketh

So the TSX lost 2.7% today. While this is big news today and has many people squealing it is not shocking. Markets go up and they go down. The reality is that the market fundamentals are still strong and nothing has changed in the economy to warrant a drastic continued sell-off. The markets will rebound and over the long run stocks always go up. Wait a couple of days then get ready to buy, buy, buy.

What? Al Gore is a hypocrite? Say it ain't so!

I don't mean to pick on Al Gore all the time but it is just too easy. I guess the inconvenient truth for Al is that he now has zero credibility. (In case you haven't heard read this article.) The kicker for me is that his energy consumption has increased since the release of "An inconvenient truth". If he truly believed in the cause of saving the earth then I would expect him to act accordingly. I am a strong believer in judging a person on their actions and not their words. Based on actions alone it is clear that Al does not care at all about the environment.

Who made Al Gore the Captain of the moral police?

In his acceptance speech at the Oscars Al Gore mentioned that we all have a "moral" obligation to fight global warming. This comment reminded me of one of my many pet peeves with the Left. Who decides what is moral and what is immoral? Judging by their speech it appears that the Left have crowned themselves the moral police. There are much bigger "moral" issues in my mind that need to be addressed before global warming, such as:

1. A person in authority using his authority to have extra-marital affairs, in the White House non-the-less. (Bill Clinton)
2. Blatantly lying to the public and trying to deceive for personal gain. (Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth)
3. Breaking commitments and breaking promises. (Cut and run strategy of Dems for Iraq)

Here is some advice Al before you go around preaching to others about correct morals please ensure that you and your close friends are morally sound first. There are few things I hate worse than a hypocrite.

It irks me that the Left think that they get to decide what constitutes a "moral" issue. And to make things worse, if you don't fall in-line with their definition of "morality" you are labeled as selfish and self-serving.

"An Inconvenient Truth wins Oscar" - What a complete shock? - *gasps*

So Al Gore's fauxcumentary won an Oscar. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Michael Moore proved to the world that documentaries do not have to be based on facts to win the hearts and votes of the "Academy" (see Bowling for Columbine in 2002). IMHO, to be considered a "documentary" a film should be required to be factual but, hey, that's just me and what do I know.
Of course An Inconvenient Truth was going to win; all of Hollywood is behind this crap, it had to win, true or not.

I mean really when you look at the competition the award was stacked in Al's favor. Two of the other nominees were focused on religion - boooring, and the other two nominees were about the Iraq war - sooooo last year. Today there is one topic that sells, and sells big, and that is global warming. This is the issue that the Left has chosen as their cause du jour - move over poor starving orphans in Africa you are last years news.

P.S. Did you see Al Gore with Leo DiCaprio? You couldn't wipe that stupid smile off his face. He thought he was such a big celebrity, I am surprised Tipper didn't throw her bra and panties on stage for her rock star Hubby.

"Liberals knew Kyoto a long shot"

Hope fully this comes as no surprise to anyone. After signing on to Kyoto the Liberals then did NOTHING to reach the Kyoto targets (thank goodness for that). It seems obvious that the Liberals treat Kyoto as nothing more than a tool to scare voters into believing the Liberals can save them. My favorite quote in the article is this:

"The signing of the Kyoto Accord in the face of vigorous opposition served to galvanize public opinion to bring it to where it is today in Canada. In the long run that will be far more important than whether we can meet all the short-term deadlines in the accord." - Eddie Goldenberg, one of former prime minister Jean Chrétien's top aides

So the details of Kyoto are not important at all; the only thing that matters is that Canadians have bought into the crap the Liberals are selling. As long as the Liberals can scare enough Canadians into believing that the sky is falling, then Kyoto has worked for Canada.

If, and that is a huge if, humans are the cause of the earth's climate change then we need some real action, not an ad campaign to "galvanize public opinion".

I will give the Liberals credit though, they got it right for once - the best action Canadians can take on the environment is no action!

What about the kids?

This is the fall-out from the caring, self-less left-wing's scare tactics. It appears that the scare tactics are working, just on the wrong group of people, the kids. This story is exactly what is wrong with the message coming from the media and the left. Rather than just trying to scare everyone with doom and gloom why not first figure out the facts then suggest some solutions rather than focusing on hair-brained theories with no factual data.

If the left was so caring and concerned about the welfare of people then why do they insist on toying with emotions to further their cause. It would be nice if the left would stop and think about the impact their lies have on society. To overlook this is just plain stupidity.

This is why carbon trading will not work

Thank you David Suzuki for finally teaching us something. This article illustrates the pure stupidity behind carbon trading. I thought the goal was to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG). Carbon trading does nothing more than transfer money from industrious countries to developing countries. In order to "educate" Canadians on the harmful effects of GHG David is driving from coast-to-coast across Canada in a diesel powered bus. But don't worry David has a plan.

"At the end of the tour, we will calculate the total emissions from the tour, and purchase high-quality carbon offsets that support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects."

So let me get this straight he will still pump the GHG into the environment which, supposedly, harms the environment but don't worry it is OK as long as he then spends lots of money to make up for it.

Here is a description of these carbon offsetting schemes:

"Under carbon-offset schemes, individuals and groups can claim their activities cause no net addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere by funding projects that fully offset their emissions. Rock bands such as the Rolling Stones and organizations that want to burnish their environmental image have been buying these offsets for years."

This is asinine. The fact remains that the original emissions were pumped into the environment. Wouldn't it make more sense to not put the GHG into the environment in the first place and still fund the projects? If the GHG are really that bad then why put them into the atmosphere in the first place. Turning around and developing solar power will not suck the GHG back out of the atmosphere.

If individuals want to spend money on this research that is their choice. But do not claim that there is no net effect on the environment. The fact is GHG have increased because of your tour bus David and no amount of money spent on carbon-offset schemes will change that!

It's about time

Funny how just the other day I was thinking that it is well past time that the federal Conservatives started acting like Conservatives and work to reduce taxes, then what do you know I found this article. The best path to prosperity (financial and social) is through lower taxes. Lower taxes means more tax revenue for the government which means more cash to spend on programs such as health care. The United States is a prime example of this in practice. As a result of the Bush tax cuts the Federal government is realizing record tax revenues, the economy is firing on all cylinders, and unemployment is at record lows. Canada needs to work harder and faster to reduce taxation in this country. Once we do that we will see growth like never before.

"Tories surge on Harper's leadership"

Leadership? What's that? We haven't had leadership in this country for a long time. I am glad to see that Canadians are still able to recognize strong leadership when they see it. Harper has a clear vision for Canada, has communicated his vision, and has implemented policy after policy that are aligned with his vision. Harper is not much of a talker (the media hates this about him) but he quietly goes about doing the work that he was elected to do. Canadians are starting to recognize and appreciate this quality of Harper.

We have yet to see the "scary" side of Harper. I suspect that the left will argue that he is waiting for a majority government before he rips off his mask and shows his true colors (I believe it is red, as in red-neck. Is that correct lefties?) Oh how frustrating it must be for the left these days. They dig and dig for dirt on Harper but it just isn't there. They are not able to perpetuate their scary dooms day scenarios because real Canadians see that Harper is not scary.

Keep up the good work Mr. Harper.

And down the slippery slope we go

Court ordered abortion? This is taking pro-choice too far. I thought that pro-choice was about giving the woman the right to choose for herself? As this case shows pro-choice has evolved into abortion for any reason, choice or not. As predicted by pro-lifers, allowing abortion in the first place was a slippery slope. Now we see how far down the slope we are heading. The parents lost their right to make decisions for their daughter when they were allowing (ye allowing, if you are not working to stop it then you are supporting it) her to have sex at 13. If they allowed her to make her own decision regarding having sex then they should allow her to make her own decision regarding keeping the baby.

This is a prime example of the concerns that conservatives have on all moral issues moving down a slippery slope. Take for instance gay marriage. The arguments are "they are born that way", "they should be allowed to love who they want", and my personal favorite, "it doesn't hurt anyone else". These same arguments can be used to defend gay rights, incest, bestiality, and polygamy. By opening the door just a crack to allow gay marriage the door is now set to be kicked wide open to allow for additional issues that are much worse.

Things that make you go hmmm

I expect that Bono's motivation for this is to provide him with more money to rid the world (or at least small pockets in Africa) of poverty. (click here)

I am excited to see that the Stone's, U2 and others have opened their eyes to the plague that is high taxes. I expect to see Bono petitioning the UN and all world governments to eliminate taxes. Now that is a cause that I can get behind!

Where is the mass media on this one?

Now I am not a fan of polls by any means, statistics are just as certain as science (meaning not certain at all). But I find it highly interesting that the polls are showing the conservative party increasing in strength but we don't read this anywhere. This is not a big surprise the media has never been about reporting the news, but rather supporting left-wing views.

It appears that Canadians are increasingly on-board with Harper and recognize that he is a true leader who is prepared to make decisions to move our country forward.

Keep up the good work Prime Minister Harper!

My New Favorite Quote (at least for now)

"It's not that liberals are ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan

Monday, February 05, 2007

But what about the consensus?

"Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn't exist" Not my words (although I wish I had said them first) but the words of Canada's first ever Ph.D. in climatology Timothy Ball. I strongly suggest you read the article.

I am really confused now, I thought that there was a "consensus" amongst every single scientist on the planet that humans are behind the demise of the earth. Surely this article has to be a hoax, right?
