Barack "I love seniors" Obama

"Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year." (click here) Are seniors really the group that needs tax relief the most? Typically, seniors have no mortgage, no dependents to pay for, and have had a life time to accumulate wealth. If we are going to eliminate income tax for any group I would expect it to be for single income earners with dependents or young families that are just starting out and trying to cope with financial turmoil.

Sounds like Obama is trying to pander to the ever increasing "senior" population.

I'm almost inclined to agree with you here. My only reservation is that I'm pretty sure that someone on Obama's economic team would have also brought up that point, and they know a whole lot more about economics, particularly in the US, than I do.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that medical expenses for seniors are almost 4X that of single middle aged adults. They're in homes and strapped to machines, its a little cruel to now tax them to death. And by taking away medicare and medicaid like the bush administration has, you are basically doing that.
